After 30 years of service to the RE/MAX network, Daryl L. Jesperson retired on September 30, 2005 and continues as a valued member of the Board of Directors. His last position was Chief Executive Officer, a title he held for more than three years.
Jesperson earned Business Administration and Psychology degrees from Adams State College, went on to a successful career as an officer in the United States Navy and later joined the Texaco, Inc. marketing department.
In 1975, he accepted a Sales Associate position with RE/MAX North, Inc., a suburban Denver office. During that first year, he was named “Rookie of the Year” by the Board of Realtors. Jesperson made the move to RE/MAX headquarters as a National Marketing Consultant in December, 1976.
He was involved in every phase of the RE/MAX organization during his 30 year tenure. In the early years, his contributions to business planning and the initial franchise package, took RE/MAX expansion to the initial 100 franchises. At the same time, he personally established and operated as many as nine RE/MAX franchises along the Colorado front-range.
In 1978, as Vice President-Zone Director, he supervised the organizations independent Regional Directors and overall development of the RE/MAX Franchise System. Promoted to Vice President Operations in June, 1979, he became responsible for numerous departments at RE/MAX headquarters, including legal, training, finance and administration. Elevated to Senior Vice President in 1987, Jesperson’s supervision expanded to include internal operations, communications, advertising, computer systems and public relations. In 1993, he was named Executive Vice President, directing and supervising all internal operations of RE/MAX International, Inc.
He was named President of RE/MAX International, Inc. in 1997 – 21 years after joining the RE/MAX ranks and he was elevated to Chief Executive Officer in April 2002. In 2004, he received the
RE/MAX International Distinguished Service Award, the most prestigious recognition in the organization.
Over the years, he was a valued spokesman for the organization and was quoted in numerous publications including
Forbes, Fortune, Business Week, Money and
The Wall Street Journal, and appeared on major network television and radio.
He has earned the GRI, ABR, CRB and CRP professional designations, and served four years on the Board of Directors of the International Franchise Association. A voracious reader, Jesperson is also a food and wine enthusiast and enjoys golf, scuba diving and travel.
His wife, Nan, who also retired in 2005, had served RE/MAX International since 1977, retiring as Vice President of RE/MAX International Relocation.
